Navigating the world of IVF can feel daunting, especially with the flood of information out there. But don't worry—this guide will simplify the IVF journey, breaking it down into 12 straightforward steps. We'll uncover the process and the incredible possibilities it offers in reproductive health, providing you with clear answers to your questions.

Why Choose IVF?

The primary reason is fertility challenges. When conception doesn't occur after a year of regular, well-timed intercourse, it may be time to explore further. Interestingly, about 40% of fertility issues are labelled as "unexplained infertility," where all tests appear normal. Other causes might include anatomical abnormalities, age, or sperm motility issues. Whatever the reason, IVF can offer solutions.

Common Concerns About IVF

Many people associate IVF with fear and uncertainty. Questions like "Is it exhausting?", "Is it affordable?", and "What if it fails?" are common. These concerns often stem from misinformation and misconceptions, which can create unnecessary anxiety.

Let's Clear the Air!

Join us as we embark on a simple, step-by-step exploration of the IVF process. Together, we'll demystify the journey and help you understand each stage, so you can approach this option with confidence and clarity.

Step 1: Discover Your Perfect Clinic

Choosing the right IVF clinic is a personal journey that depends on your unique preferences. Start by researching online and reading patient testimonials to gain insights into others' experiences. Pay attention to the clinic's certifications, as the quality of staff and equipment can vary. Remember, your needs are distinct, so ensure the clinic you choose aligns perfectly with them.

Step 2: Reach Out

Your IVF journey begins with that first call to your chosen clinic. If you decide to partner with Newlife, scheduling an appointment is simple, whether in person or via video call. Plus, your initial medical consultation is complimentary!

Step 3: Personal History and Evaluation

Our team will review your medical history and assess your previous treatments. This step often involves specialised blood tests and ultrasounds to pinpoint any issues and develop a tailored treatment plan. Every case is unique, so your treatment will be personalised to suit your specific needs.

Step 4: Address Your Concerns

From the initial assessment, our team is available on a 24/7 basis, to address any concerns you may have, and guide you throughout all processes so your journey is as stress-free as possible. We explore all possible scenarios to provide you with a clear success rate from the very first session.

Step 5: Transparent Cost Estimation

Once your treatment plan is set, you'll receive a detailed cost estimate with no hidden fees. Transparency is key, as some clinics may initially present low costs only to add unexpected charges later. With us, what you see is what you get.

Step 6: Medication Protocol

Now, let's delve into the IVF process. Based on your diagnosis, your doctor will determine the appropriate ovarian stimulation protocol, which may involve hormonal drugs and injections. If you're apprehensive about injections, check out our YouTube channel for step-by-step video instructions. In some cases, medication may not be necessary, and your natural cycle will be monitored.

Step 7: Monitoring Progress

Regular monitoring through ultrasound scans tracks the number and size of follicles and the thickness of the endometrium every 1-3 days. Hormone dosages may be adjusted as needed to ensure optimal conditions.

Step 8: Egg Retrieval & Sperm Collection

Egg retrieval is performed transvaginally with ultrasound guidance and minor anaesthesia. On the same day, the partner provides a sperm sample, or a donor is used if necessary. The retrieved eggs are then fertilised in the lab to create embryos.

Step 9: Embryo Culture

The fertilised eggs are nurtured in specialised media and kept in incubators under ideal conditions until they are ready for transfer.

Step 10: Embryo Transfer

Five days after fertilisation, the embryos are transferred to the woman's uterus under ultrasound guidance. This painless procedure is regulated by Greek law, with the number of embryos transferred depending on the woman's age and treatment type.

Step 11: Embryo Freezing

Good quality embryos can be frozen using the vitrification technique (cryopreservation method) for a future pregnancy, without requiring new ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval, only preparation of the endometrium and embryo transfer.

Step 12: Pregnancy Test!

We've reached the last and most critical step! All that remains is to take the pregnancy test.

If the test is positive, an ultrasound is scheduled in about two-three weeks to confirm the normal progression of the pregnancy.
If the test is negative, don't worry! It's perfectly natural to feel a sense of disappointment, but don't lose hope.

Continued efforts often lead to increased success rates, and our doctors can refine the approach for better results. In case you have proceeded with embryo cryopreservation, the second attempt could be characterised as smoother since, usually, the process of injectable medications does not need to be repeated.

Remember, success rates improve with each attempt!

We trust that our article provided valuable insights into the IVF journey. Keep your dreams of building a family alive, and remember that Newlife is here to support you every step of the way, to make hope happen!
